The problem with the models' attitude nowadays...
I have to be very honest in my opinions here after being in the business for more than 10 years now and observing the kind of bad attitude some models have. I know the truth always hurts but I rather that you hate me than I living in a world of fantasies and plastic-ness. I have no time for such things really. A fact is a fact and you cannot make me change it. I won't fall into the world of plastic and bitchiness. You see new models will always listen to the bookers' advices for just awhile. After they have done some jobs, that's where their true colours show. Whether they like it or not I dare say that a majority of the models will behave this way. Some let modelling gets into their heads while some listened to gossips. When that happened perception changed. Many don't want to clarify with the bookers about what they heard. They'll just assumed just because so-and-so said that. Let me tell you very frankly, gossips and rumours are just that. There may be some truths in it but most of the time it is just half-baked ones. As we all know this industry is a bitchy one and people like to add in more lies to make the stories even juicier. And no models will ever wash their dirty linens in public. For example, if I am going to sack a model because of his attitude problem, he'll not go out there to speak good of me even though he knows he is at fault. Instead he will paint a very nice picture of himself but pushes all the blame to the booker or agency. Why? Because we are not there to defend ourselves. Some models are very good in putting up an act and people believe them. I guess they have to do this in order to survive in the market. But little did they know that people talk. After all it is a small industry and backstabbings are common. Some local and overseas agencies do talk to each other and exchange info. So I think for those models who have verbal diarrhoea they should think twice before they try to bad-mouth their bookers or agencies if they want to survive long in the industry. This is NOT a threat but rather it's a fact. Agencies and clients never like to work with difficult or attitude models. We have many choices and without one particular model the world isn't going to collapse or the photoshoot cannot go on. I agree that if one good model leaves, another better one will come. That's how things work out. No one is indispensable. Honestly talk is cheap these days. Another good example is when new or upcomings models that refused to go for anymore castings just because they got rejected many times. They behave like prima donnas and think they're already a top model, and expect clients to book them directly without having to go for castings. I believe most agencies face the same problem with such models. Models forget that if they don't go for castings that translates to no chance of getting any jobs. At least if they went and got rejected, the clients will still keep their casting photos or videos for future jobs. In any case, the agencies have already done their part by securing castings for the models. If the models cannot even land a job after going for so many castings then the problem actually lies with the models and not the agenices. So whose fault? The models' of course! If the models are good, regardless of which good agencies they go to they'll surely get jobs. The lousy ones can jump from one agency to another till kingdom comes it still won't make any difference because they won't get any jobs. Having said that, these lousy models are the ones who always whine the most. They'll never think that they are not good enough for the jobs and tend to have this perception that they are very good and capable of being top models. Some agencies will try to give them a chance to be talents but they think otherwise. No wonder in Singapore these days every youngsters want to be a "model" and mostly are "freelance models". And sadly the word "model" is no longer a glamourous word in Singapore's context. Touching on freelance models, majority of them are the ones who spoil the market. I don't wish to stereotype them but it is a well-known fact now that they DO spoil the market in terms of model rates and quality. (Note: The other spoilers are the production houses, ad agencies, event companies, freelance producers and talent scouters or agents.) Firstly they don't have a "mother agency" to look into their modelling affairs. Secondly many newcomers don't even know how to quote the rates to clients. To them quantity matters most not quality. As long as they can make money no matter how lowly paid from the many jobs they got they're happy. In the end who are the ones who will laugh all the way to the bank? It is the clients. It is for this very reason that model rates these days are getting from bad to worst. It'll get worst. As it is many clients are giving ridiculously low budgets. So I really don't know how can Singapore be a fashion hub if this problem is going to continue. I don't think we should blame the foreign models for dominating the industry. The freelance models only have themselves to blame because they let it happened. We want quality not quantity darl-lings. Another problematic group of models is the part-time ones. They tend to behave like full-time models. When we have castings for them they couldn't go because of class, exams, NS or work. This is a loss to the agencies. But when they don't get enough castings or jobs, they question if the agency is a good one or not. I for one will never allow such models to question my job. Like it or not, part-time models should just behave like part-timers. Don't expect to work like a full-time model. Period. More information will be added later on.

Contributor's Note
I write this blog is to create the awareness that modelling agencies are not to be blamed totally if the models cannot secure any jobs. I am not speaking for the other agencies. This is my own opinion and what I feel about the industry as a whole.
